This is a sweep van:
It's the ride a walker gets on the 3 Day when they need a break, either because they're hurt, tired, or have to pee reallllly badly and they won't make it to the next pit stop without it.
Last year, DKM was on the sweep crew and loved it; I've had to take a sweep a couple of times over the last 3 walks, and they're typically fun to be in. But when it came time to register for the 2012 SF 3 Day as a crew member, the sweep slots were all filled.
Bummer. I registered as lunch crew, but I have to admit, I wasn't exactly looking forward to it.
DKM had me added on a standby list, just in case. And today, someone dropped out and she snagged me the spot, so I totally get to sweep with her this year.
And now I am seriously looking forward to the 3 Day.
Avon is in 2 weeks and I'm pumped for that1--seriously not worried about my back because it's already feeling a little better, and I have Vicodin--but now I'm pumped for Komen.
Nope, no fundraising for Komen. After the Avon, any fundraising I do will be to help out fellow walkers, at least until I start doing it to raise money for the 2013 MS Challenge Walk2.
1Aside from looking forward to seeing how an Avon Walk works and stuff, we're not camping. We're staying in a hotel. With real beds. And the Cheesecake Factory across the street. Oh hell yeah!
2After the Avon Walk, I won't be walk training for a while...I've got to get my crap together and lose the awful amount of weight I've gained since going off HGH. And that means doing things other than walking. But I'll be ready for the MS Walk, for sure.

|Yep, they fed him...|
Today I headed for the outlet mall in Vacaville intending to walk another 7-8, but called it quits at 3, because my back just would not cooperate. What stated with a minor ache whipped itself into searing pain that enveloped my entire lower back and started wrapping around my sides to my front and Motrin wasn't helping, so I decided to stop before it hurt too much to drive home.
I have no idea what it is. This doesn't feel like my typical back pain, where I can feel the grinding in my spine at L4 and L5; this is muscle pain, and I can't figure it out. My shoes aren't worn out, I haven't been carrying anything I normally don't. I'm not sure if my posture is different or not, but I better figure it out fast.
Still, I'm not worried about the Avon walk. It's two days; even if my back hurts, I can handle two days. I will whine and DKM might want to fit me with cement shoes and shove me into the bay halfway through the first day, but I can gut it out.
I'd like to figure it out before then, though.
(80% of the answer is probably lose weight, you moron, because I am carrying more than I was even in Atlanta last October, but still..)
Back or not, I'm looking forward to checking the Avon out and seeing how much I like it.
