So you want a real tattoo

During the 2012 SF 3-Day Walk, a woman came running up to our sweep van, because we had her tattoo on the side of the van: it was our Rock the Pink magnetic sign, and the design is based on the tattoo I designed for myself last year.

It turned out, she'd wanted a different kind of pink ribbon tattoo, Googled for ideas, and when she found one she liked, she took it to her artist and had it inked onto the back of her neck. And that tattoo just happened to be mine.

Now...technically...this is very bad form. You don't rip off someone else's custom ink, and this is most definitely custom. I conceived it, sketched it, owned it. Since then I've found 2 more people online who have done the same thing, getting copies of my tattoo.

For this, I don't mind at all. If you want to copy the tattoo on yourself, please do. I get a weird little kick out of it, and I'll even give you something to print out to take to your artist:

Click to biggify...you may want to add your own twist, and that's cool, too...

What I ask you to not do is to get the image on any sort of merchandise. No t-shirts, hats, buttons, etc. I'm in the process of getting this trademarked, and I feel a need to protect my trademark.

If you want this on a t-shirt or hat, it's available for you to purchase.

I'm tickled pink (ha!) that people want this as a real tattoo, and for that everyone has my blessing. Just hands off my image for merchandise, please.

Oh, and a writeup of the SF 3-Day is on my other blog, Thumper Thinks Out Loud...

I am one of the two people who showed apparent "bad form" by copying your tattoo. I like the gal that got in your sweep van, googled "pink ribbon feet tattoos" and yours came up with no credit to the designer or artist. One can only assume since it was posted in a public forum that you were ok with the image being recreated on others. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all.

I'd also like to let you know that since being told this tattoo was a logo for "Rock the Pink" I did some research....turns out "Rock the Pink" is already trademarked (like "For the Cure")....
